Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
