Why the DNC is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The move by the DNC to suppress the publication regarding its own autopsy report on the 2024 election appears stunning however not surprising. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the DNC often functions more like a communications shop rather than an electoral entity focused on building local power for winning elections.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to depart from the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has stayed within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Releasing the findings would have indicated whether party leaders truly desire to encourage honest conversation regarding the errors that paved the way for Donald Trump to become president again. However, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to be learned from the stunning loss of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: does this help us win? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from our fundamental goal," an explanation that has been offered to justify concealing the document.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Examined

An autopsy report of substance would confront certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Losing among a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate during the previous election proved pivotal during the tight recent race.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The unwavering insistence by a party leader to run again, alongside a very late exit, has been criticized as robbing the party's base of a competitive nomination process.
  • Failing Core Democratic Voters: While facing inflation, the campaign reportedly ceding to corporate donors' interests and not managing to challenge the impact of profit-seeking.
  • A Gaza Impact: The refusal to reconsider a stance on a major international conflict reportedly led to driving away significant blocs, particularly with young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Young Voter Support: Extensive evidence shows a huge decline of votes for the candidate from the youth electorate.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy fits a recurring tendency to avoid uncomfortable facts. It recalls an episode where nearly all Democratic officeholder in Congress supported a sitting president's insistence on seeking another term until a poor televised debate compelled a reversal.

At the same time, a significant majority within the party's base were continually telling pollsters that they did not want that candidate to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Issues

A substantive report could examine issues about financial allocations, such as the amounts were directed to high-priced advisors and advertising contractors over the course of an electoral effort that managed to spend an enormous sum in a short period.

The Broader Problem

Ultimately, the blockage of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference to the existing power structure that oversaw a losing presidential campaign. The implication to the party's base – which includes countless dedicated activists – is that they cannot have a right to understand what the leadership claim to have learned based on a report based on feedback from all states.

A political entity unwilling to honestly assess its own failings is unlikely to break free from the rut which was so beneficial to the rival party.
